Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is pleased to announce that funding from this year’s Botanic to Bridge FunD Run will be directed to Roseberry Community Services’ Branchout program to assist disadvantaged young people in Gladstone.

The funding will be used to build a new kitchen facility that will be used in the organisation’s Branchout program to facilitate cooking programs and assist young people to gain skills in hospitality.

The new kitchen will provide a high quality learning space for young people in Gladstone who have disengaged from school and the community.

Roseberry Community Services General Manager, Colleen Tribe said the Branchout program aims to support young vulnerable people within our community by helping them to rebuild their lives and become contributing members of society.

“Food is a universal tool through which we can share stories and learn from each other.

“The program will give young people in Gladstone an opportunity to learn about cooking, budgeting, nutrition and self-care,” Ms Tribe said.

GPC People and Community General Manager, Rowen Winsor said the corporation is honoured to be able to facilitate the funding through its Botanic to Bridge event.

“Roseberry Community Services provides such an important service to our local community and the Branchout program specifically is critical to ensuring that disadvantaged young people in Gladstone are not left behind and are provided with opportunities to reengage with education or to gain employment,” Ms Winsor said.

Roseberry Community Services was first established in the mid-1980s when a committee was formed locally to apply for funding for a youth shelter in Gladstone.

Over the years as the organisation has grown, it has cemented its purpose to assist people through providing homes, strengthening families and supporting pathways for young people.

You can support Roseberry Community Services’ Branchout program by simply registering to run, walk, jog or wheel your way to the Botanic to Bridge finish line on Sunday, 21 August.

Early bird registrations will open soon and participants can save themselves up to $5.00 by registering before Friday, 17 June.
