GEARING UP FOR BOTANIC TO BRIDGE

16-AUG-2018

The race that stops Gladstone is less than 48 hours away, with more than 3,500 people now registered to participate in the annual Botanic to Bridge FunD Run.

The Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) event will see 1,000 eager runners and walkers tackle the 8km stretch between Tondoon Botanic Gardens and the Marina Parklands, while another 2,400 people will take part in the 3km race starting at the Reg Tanna Memorial Park (Duck Ponds).

GPC CEO Peter O’Sullivan said it is wonderful to see the community throwing its support behind the event for a ninth year.

“The Botanic to Bridge is based on instilling the importance of health and wellbeing within our community,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“We have always said, it doesn’t matter if you run or walk, it is about getting out and about with your friends and family and staying active.”

GPC’s People, Community and Sustainability General Manager, Rowen Winsor, thanked the Gladstone community for its ongoing support.

“The event has contributed more than $350,000 to the community since its inception in 2010,” Ms Winsor said.

“This year we hope to add to that significantly, through contributions to our Community Beneficiary, Gladstone PCYC’s YOUth Space drop-in lounge, as well as our region’s schools.”

Participants collecting their bibs over the next two days are reminded that race office has moved to the old TAFE campus at 25 Derby Street.

Mr O’Sullivan reminded residents and participants that road closures will also be in place from 5am Sunday, to ensure the safe running of the event.

“Access will be limited across Glenlyon Road, with Traffic Control positioned at Dixon Drive, Philip Street and Breslin Street to assist motorists,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“There will also be shuttle buses available from the CQUniversity Marina Campus to transport participants to the 8km and 3km starting points between 5.30am and 11am.”
