Gladstone schools have received over $27,000 from this year’s Botanic to Bridge and Healthy Living Expo event.

This is in addition to the $22,000 provided to Rosella Park School to help fund their sensory garden.

Gladstone Ports Corporation CEO Leo Zussino said it was a fantastic result for the schools of the region.

West State School took home the lion’s share with a cheque for $3,245.00 being handed over to the school this week.

Last week Star of the Sea received their cheque for $3,005.00.

“The Botanic to Bridge is our way of encouraging school children and their parents to get out and get active”, Mr Zussino said.

“For every school child that registered their school received $10 towards healthy living projects.

“We also encouraged the parents of school age children to sign up for the event as well. Once they nominated the school where their child attends we gave not only their registration fee back to the school but also a further $5 per family member that registered.”

Mr Zussino said the school incentive program will provide the next generation with the tools needed to improve their health and fitness.

“The schools will then use this money on implementing healthy living programs to assist students develop healthy living habits that will guide them for the rest of their lives,” Mr Zussino added.
