GPC thanks the Gladstone community

Gladstone you’ve done it again! What a magnificent turnout for the 2011 Botanic to Bridge and Healthy Living Expo.

On a beautifully glorious sunny day thousands took on the challenge of either the 8km or 3km route to arrive at the Healthy Living Expo at the marina.

GPC’s CEO Leo Zussino said it was a fantastic response to the event.

“This year’s numbers indicate the Gladstone community has well and truly embraced this event,” Mr Zussino said.

“Congratulations to everyone who participated in either the 8km or 3km course.”

This year participants came from as far south as the Gold Coast with many travelling from Bundaberg and Rockhampton.

The marina was pumping as thousands of race goers streamed past the finish line and then wandered round the Healthy Living Expo.

Local chefs and restaurateurs Jason Faint and Scott McCarthy delighted the crowds with their breathtaking display of cooking skills.

They were then split up to form two teams with Zinc personality Rob Kidd and Channel 7’s weather presenter Livio Regano for a celebrity cook off. Olympian skater Steven Bradbury had the unenviable task of judging the cooking skills of both teams and unsurprisingly a tie was declared.

Mr Zussino said it a tremendous effort of all the CPC staff and volunteers who worked on the day.

“We had over 70 volunteers contributing their time and effort for this event and on behalf of GPC I would like to thank those volunteers for their time on the day.

“Without their extremely hard work, this event would not have been the success it was.”

Mr Zussino also thanked the public for supporting this year’s public beneficiary.

“All public registrations went to Rosella Park School for the construction of their sensory garden,” Mr Zusssino said.

Last year $50,000 was returned to Gladstone schools and the Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club.

“With 4,500 registrations for this year’s event we expect a similar amount of money will be returned to the community,” Mr Zussino said.

Mr Zussino added that the sponsors for this year’s event must also be acknowledged.

“Without the support of the Queensland Government’s Department of Communities, Arrow Energy, GLNG, Australia Pacific LNG, QGC, the Gladstone Regional Council and our media partners The Gladstone News, Zinc Radio, The Gladstone Observer and Channel 7 the event could not have happened.”
