Home Olympian Matt Welsh runs into town for Botanic to Bridge
Former Olympic swimmer, Botanic to Bridge and Bupa ambassador, Matt Welsh was in town recently to promote the upcoming Botanic to Bridge.
This will be Matt’s second Botanic to Bridge and after last year’s event he said he couldn’t wait to return to Gladstone.
“When I was first introduced to the event last year and particularly the concept of the community benefits I thought it was a brilliant idea. I then had such a good time participating that I am glad I am able to return,” Matt said.
“Last year's event was so much fun, I loved seeing the excitement at the starting lines, the energy of the events and the atmosphere at the finish line. I loved it so much that after completing the 8km course I ran back to the 3km start line and ran that event too!
“Now in its fifth year, the event is something that everyone should be so proud of as it truly is a community event, run by and run for the benefit of the community.”
Whilst in town Matt visited schools, attended the Port Curtis athletics trials and participated in the Gladstone Road Runner’s Thursday night run, where he did a personal best time.
Matt will be in town again for the Botanic to Bridge, which will be held on Sunday 17th August.
