Registrations have now opened for one of the Gladstone region’s popular community events, the GPC Botanic to Bridge.

An impressive 4,500 people supported the event in 2011, lacing up their running shoes and pounding the pavement for 3 or 8 kilometres, all for a good cause.

Through public registrations and the support of the events sponsors, GPC donated $25,000 to the 2011 Community Beneficiary, Rosella Park School for the construction of a sensory garden for its students.

Gladstone Ports Corporation CEO, Leo Zussino, has issued a challenge for the community to get behind the event again this year and raise even more funds for the community and local schools.

“Last year’s event attracted an overwhelming response by the community and through their support we not only could donate $25,000 to Rosella Park to finalise their project, but we also injected over $27,000 into local schools for sports and recreation equipment,” Mr Zussino said.

“We are encouraging the community to show their support again for this event, and to not only promote the importance of healthy living, but to also raise funds for our local schools and community organisations,” he said.

Registrations are now officially open and range from $5 to $15, including a race t-shirt or singlet.

Entry fees from school registrations are matched by GPC and directed back to the nominated local school, and entry fees from public registrations will support the two 2012 Community Beneficiaries - Special Olympics QLD- Gladstone Region and the Mission to Seafarers.
